Medoc is a red wine only wine appellation established in November 1936. Located on the left side of the river the Gironde in the Bordeaux region of France .The Medoc is divided into three sections: the Landes du Medoc, the Bas-Medoc and Haut-Medoc covering 52 communes . The Haut Medoc is the most prestigious area with Margaux, St estephe, St Julien and Pauillac communes within his boundary.The chateaux located in these communes produced the world's most expensive wines. Among them Margaux, Mouton, Lafite and Latour . The red wines produced here are primarily made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines can be supplemented by small amounts of Carmenère, Merlot, Malbec (known locally as Cot) and Petit Verdot.
