Saint-Julien is an appellation located in the Haut-Medoc part of Bordeaux wine region in France. Its international reputation is based on its status as a reliable source of consistently elegant, age-worthy wines . The Fiefs de Lagrange 'Grand Vin' is second wine of the property Chateau Lagrange ,was established in 1985 following the acquisition by Suntory group. It comes from vines that average 30 years old today and planted on gravelly soils for fine Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for some clay
Evidence has been fund that grapes were planted here in Gallo-Roman times . In fact the Gallo-Roman 'Villa Rustica' named in the middle Ages 'Grangia' give the estate its name. In the Middle Ages the Maison de 'Lagrange Monteil' joining with ' Tenure of Pellecalhus' estate and the became wine-producing estate in the Medoc area.Since then the estate has been passed between many well-known wine merchants and families throughout the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries until the current owners, Suntory, purchased the estate in 1983.
Today the estate extends to 157 Hectares . The methods of production respected the desire to combine tradition and modernity: the density of plantation is high, the plowing is traditional, the harvesting is done by hand . The classic Bordeaux wine is made in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. The aging is carried out in barrels, 60% of which are new, in air-conditioned cellars. Lagrange estate's tendency for including a nearly overwhelming oak component in its wines has been tamed in this cuvee, resulting in a better-balanced, potentially complex offering.
