Located in St Estephe commune this is an elegant, classic effort that represents the Haut-medoc wine area. The Marquis Calon is the second wine produced by the Chateau de Calon (3eme cru classe) a winegrowing estate back to the 12th Century. The name, Calon-Ségur back to the 18th Century. At the time, the château was part of much larger estate including the famous Châteaux Latour, Lafite and Margaux owned by the Marquis de Ségur. The Marquis decided to add his name to the château alongside the word Calon, the name of boats that once was up and down the local river the Gironde.
A success for the vintage, it exhibits fine density, moderately high but sweet tannins, and alluring texture, and fine purity.-- Long and balanced. Drinking well now .
Tasting notes: Deep ruby, with forest floor, cassis, black cherry, and soil undertones in both the aromas and flavors, this is a medium to full-bodied wine.
