Graves is an important area of the Bordeaux wine region.Graves is situated on the left bank of the Garonne river bank in the upstream part of the region, southeast of the city Bordeaux. Characterized by the gravel soils (graves) after which it is named. Graves as well to have is own AOC Graves appellation created in 1959 is respected for its red wines as for its whites. It is the only wine area producing Grand Cru wines of both colors, most notably the Premier Grand Cru chateaux Haut-Brion (dry red and dry white) and d'Yquem (sweet white)
