Fonseca guimaraens Port 2004
Quinta do Guimareans is a single vineyard from which gra pes are harvested and then blended to make Fonseca. Over the years, Fonseca's determination to preserve and refine its distinctive house style has drawn it ever closer to the vineyard. The last three decades of the 20th century saw it invest in vineyard ownership and take a leading role in vineyard renovation in the Douro Valley. Fonseca's three estates, Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo Antonio ,with their distinctive terroirs. Guimaraens family who led the firm for over a century and first established its reputation as a 'first growth' Vintage Port house. And finally the Yeatmans and their descendants who steered the company successfully through the second half of the 20th century and into the new millennium.
Tasting note: A very conservative nose with blackberry, black coffee and just a hint of orange blossom. Moderate definition on the ripe, fleshy palate, which is surprisingly soft, and supple, overtly expressive at this early stage. Cherry, ripe strawberry and yet again a tang of blood orange and a dash of pepper on the finish.
