The Rhône Valley in the south east of France produces some of its fullest bodied, aromatic red wines. The fullest come from the Syrah grape which is predomnant in the Northern Rhone (Hermitage, Cote Rotie) while Southern Rhone (Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas) produces rich, spicy wines from the Grenache grape. It is always worth trying the white Rhone, produced primarily from Grenache Blanc which is deliciously aromatic.
