The table above shows the best and worst performing wines from the Bordeaux 500 index this year. Gruaud Larose has risen the most, up 15%. Climens is the worst performer, down 6%.
Four second wines appear among the top ten Bordeaux performers: their indices have all climbed over 9% year-to-date. Forts Latour is the only second wine to not rank among the top performers. However, its index is still up a strong 6.3%.
The First Growths have made slower progress. Latour (+2%) and Haut Brion (+2%) – shown above – are among the slowest risers year-to-date. Margaux (+3%) and Mouton Rothschild (+2%) have also fallen short compared to their second wines. Lafite Rothschild has done better, up 5.7%.
Sweet wines appear among both the best and worst performers. Three of the top ten are from Sauternes: Coutet (+13%), Yquem(+10%) and Rieussec (+9%) have all made strong gains. At the other end of the table are Suduiraut (+1%) and Climens (-6%), one of the few wines to have fallen.
