Château Briatte Sauternes,Grand Vin de Bordeaux, France 2011. Halves
Sauternes, such as Château Briatte , are produced in the Sauternes region (including Barsac) south of Bordeaux.Chateau Briatte counts Yquem, Suduiraut and Lafaurie-Peraguey as neighbour. The wine is made from botrytis infected Semillon and Sauvignon blancgrapes. Semillon is preferred due to the grape's thin skin and susceptibility to the botrytis which gives the grape a high sugar content. These wines are noted for the balance that complements the honeyed sweetness.
This wine Chateau Briatte, the pride and joy of Michel Roudes, its proprietor - is neither a classed growth, nor anything else that might inflate its price.
