Chateau d'Armailhac, 5eme Grand Cru, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France 2012

Chateau d'Armailhac is located in Pauillac wine area in the Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux. The vineyard is located to the south of the village of le Pouyalet, immediately next to Mouton Rothschild vineyard. It covers 70 hectares and is planted with 52 %Cabernet Sauvignon , 36 % Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Grapes are fermented in 23 gravity-fed stainless steel vats, sized according to different parcels in the vineyard. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak; one-third new, one-third in one year old and one-third in two-year-old barrels.

 

 Part of the empire of the Chateau Mouton Rothschild, this estate was once known as Mouton Baronne Philippe until 1988 , when the Baronne decides to return to the castle its identity Of origin, Château D'Armailhac. The estate history come back as far as 1680 when the brothers of Armailhacq, Dominique and Guilhem, owned plots in Pauillac. A period of intense planting is then launched and the Médoc is covered with vines. The estate then called Mouton d'Armailhac stretches over 52 hectares at the end of the 18th century. In 1844 Madame Darmailhac sold the Carruades du Pouyalet to Lafite. In 1855 the castle Mouton d'Armailhac is classified Fifth Grand Cru in Pauillac. In 1878 it was the Count Adrien de Ferrand who took over the estate, which then covered 70 hectares of vines. In 1931 the young Baron Phillipe de Rothschild became the actual owner of the estate after buying the shares.

Tasting notes: Deep ruby,purple colour.The nose is intense and has a subtle blend of red berries.Crème de cassis flavour  with notes of ripe fruit aromas and toasted  and a flowery-ness This is rich, medium to full-bodied. The palate is well structured with good tannins and velvety expression mixed .

 

Grape variety:  54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit verdot

Geography: Haut Medoc , Pauillac, Bordeaux 

Appellation: 5eme Grand Cru, Pauillac, Bordeaux

 

Alcohol percentage: 13.5%
