Hospices de Beaune Boasts record Auction Sale
Since the year 2000,the 152nd auction of the Hospices De Beaune on Monday 19 Nov,boasted a record sale.
Raising nearly 6m,some half a million more euros than last year
The auction was aided by the appearance of the singer and model Carla Bruni-Sarkosy,wife of the former president.
The sale of Burgundy,and star cuvees including Clos De La Roche cuvee Georges Kritter,raised 55,667,and Mazis Chambertin cuvee Madeleine Collington raised 38,318
Six barrels of grand cru from Cote De Nuits,the Echezeaux cuvee Jean Luc Bissey,sold for a very impressive 50,000 per barrel.
The lot was also outstanding as there were only 516 barrels compared to 700 last year.
Money raised will go to the Carla Bruni-Sarkozy foundation,supporting underpriviledged children,in arts and education,and the
Institut Des Epilepsies De L'enfant Et L'adolescent,for children and adults with epilepsy.
Another special appearance was courtesy of french footballer Guy Roux.
Mrs Bruni-Sarkosy charmed the audience by saying,'I will personally deliver the barrel if a bid of 200,000 is reached,and if it reaches 250,000,my husband will do it!'
She was speaking of the former president's lot for this year,a 350 litre tonneau of Grand Cru Corton,cuvee Charlotte Dumay,which was bought by a Ukranian businessman,Igor Lankovskyi.
Asian buyers as expected,strongly bidded at 12% of the lots valued,just behind Europe and the United States,according to Christies.
