Sancerre a is made from Sauvignon Blanc gape varariety, in the eastern part of the Loire valley, southeast of Orléans . Most vineyards are planted on the hills around Sancerre on south facing slopes at altitudes between 655-1,310 feet (200–400 meters). Philippe de Benoist's (owner domain du Nozay) vineyard is planted all in one piece in a huge natural hollow. He belongs to a family with long military tradition
