2015 Exceptional sunshine!
The year 2015 profited from completely exceptional climatic conditions with surplus sunning, very weak pluviometry and very high temperatures in June and July. The strong luminosity and heat marked this year with accelerated vegetative cycle and certain stages such as flowering at the beginning of June and ripening at the beginning of August were fulgurating. Harvests at Domaine Jacques Prieur started on 3rd September for Chardonnays and on 7th September for the Pinot Noirs. 2015 can be illustrated as an extremely early vintage and it stands next to 2003, 2007 and 2011. The first tastings show generous white wines and refined red wines.

First time tasting Montrachet from this adress. More than decent expression of the vineyard with fine depth, exceptionel balance, virtually no oak showing - and the richness of the vintage is handled very well indeed; this has a lot of nerve and minerality and certainly years to go, the acidity and the backbone is there for a long life. Grade; 93+

The 2015 Montrachet Grand Cru has a light, slight smoky bouquet with an intriguing and very subtle licorice note that loiters in the background like a naughty kid. The palate is well balanced and shows more cohesion and terroir expression than the Chevalier-Montrachet: quite powerful with an attractive viscous texture, but counterbalanced by a fine thread of acidity and a convincing spicy finish. This is the best white from Jacques Prieur this year by some margin. Grade: 92-94 Points

(13.3% natural alcohol; about to be bottled): Bright, light yellow. Aromas of apricot, yellow grapefruit, apple and iodine. A distinct step up in intensity and cut from the Chevalier-Montrachet; higher-pitched and more energetic in the mouth, with its ripe apricot and citrus fruit flavors buoyed by excellent mineral support. This structured wine will need at least several years in bottle to express itself. Grade: 92-94 Points

(from two parcels measuring .59 ha on the Chassagne side, one of which is in the section known as Dents de Chien; Interestingly one of the parcels is planted to an equivalent density of 14,000 vines per ha, notably higher than the usual 10,000). A beautifully layered nose flashes a broad assortment of aromas that include apple, pear, acacia, lavender, spice and a discreet application of wood. The Chevalier is a big wine but this is bigger still with its imposingly scaled flavors that are both muscular and powerful yet even so there is a better sense of verve and particularly so on the lingering, sappy and well-balanced finale. This is clearly going to require at least some bottle age and amply reward a decade plus. Grade: 91-94 Points

Pale, bright, green-tinged yellow. Lively aromas of fresh pineapple and crushed herbs. Concentrated, savory wine with lemon, lime and yellow peach flavors enlivened by wild herbs and a suggestion of iodiney minerality. Plenty fruity for young Montrachet but also precise and juicy. Finishes sappy, saline and long, with a strong impression of dry extract. Grade: 91-94 Points
