Alsace
The wines of Alsace reflect their geographical position on the eastern border of France with Germany. Although French, the wines have a Germanic influence especially in its grape varieties,such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Sylvaner but they are drier & of fuller body. Also some French grape varieties Pinot Gris ,Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Muscat and Chasselas . The Pinot Gris French grape variety is believed to have been taken to Hungary in the 14th century, where it was named Szurkebarat . It is further believed to have been brought back to Alsace by General Lazarus Von Schwendi after his campaign against the Turks in the 16th century. It was planted in a French town call Kientzheim under the name "Tokay", taken from Hungary’s most famous sweet wine Tokay.
